You will be shown informative videos related to coding, and then taken step-by-step through a series of short activities that will incorporate more and more complex coding. You can choose any of the 'block' based tutorials offered, from creating your own Star Wars Game, Flappy Bird or even Minecraft - the choice is yours! Create Your Own Tutorial Based Game
Once you have completed your tutorial, you will be given extra coding pieces to create your own game based on your tutorial. Spend a little time working to make the game clear and easy to use, then let others in the class test and play your game! Create a game/media based on the tutorial that you worked throught. The game should demonstrate some thought and planning and be appropriate for a grade 8 audience. You should be aiming for about 100lines of code. We will then 'share' our media/games with our peers to get feedback -Strength and Areas for Improvement. Coding Project
For this project we are going to use the MIT created online coding application called Scratch. Scratch is a programming language and an online community where you can program and share interactive media such as stories, games, and animation with people from all over the world. As you create with Scratch, you will refine your coding skills, learn learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically! Step #1: Form a design Team. This can be a solo project or a team of up to three members. Step #2: Brainstorm and Develop your Multimedia/Game Project. Use the provided planning document as an outline. Step #3: Create a Scratch Account and Join the 8Connections class group. Sign Up for a Student Account Step #4: Start Coding!! (your group members can work on your project together, individually or collaboratively) Step #5: BETA test your project. Have at least one other group/individual test and give you feedback. Step #6: Final Revisions. Incorporate the feedback and make any 'tweeks' to your coding. Step #6: Share your project. Post your project to the class "studio" for sharing and peer feedback.
